Lace is the current President of the Friends of Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge Complex, which supports the mission of the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge. At the present, this group is focused on actively raising funds to purchase the Three Sisters Springs. She not only serves on the board of various environmental organizations in her community, she is active as the Chairperson of Citrus 20/20 Inc., a leadership council within the county. From January to August 2008, she sat on the Editorial Board of the Citrus County Chronicle and was a voice for environmental issues impacting the Nature Coast. Lace began her environmental endeavors in 1993 at the Nature Conservancy in Orlando, Florida, working with donors and volunteers. She is a Leadership Citrus graduate, a certified Master Naturalist, and a long time member of the Native Plant Society of Florida. The Chronicle recently awarded Lace its “2009’s Co-Citizen of the Year” and “One of the Ten Most Admired Women in Citrus County for Community Service”.
