Lace is the current President of the Friends of Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge Complex, which supports the mission of the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge. At the present, this group is focused on actively raising funds to purchase the Three Sisters Springs. She not only serves on the board of various environmental organizations in her community, she is active as the Chairperson of Citrus 20/20 Inc., a leadership council within the county. From January to August 2008, she sat on the Editorial Board of the Citrus County Chronicle and was a voice for environmental issues impacting the Nature Coast. Lace began her environmental endeavors in 1993 at the Nature Conservancy in Orlando, Florida, working with donors and volunteers. She is a Leadership Citrus graduate, a certified Master Naturalist, and a long time member of the Native Plant Society of Florida. The Chronicle recently awarded Lace its “2009’s Co-Citizen of the Year” and “One of the Ten Most Admired Women in Citrus County for Community Service”.

Moved from Wisconsin to Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1986, then to Homosassa after retiring in 2002 from Inve$tware Corp. Software Developers, as General/Financial Manger. Prior to Inve$tware Corporation was self-employed in small business accounting. Alumnus of Carroll College, Waukesha, WI and WCTC, Waukesha, WI. Degree in Accounting & Marketing.

13 years volunteer service as Chairperson, President, Treasurer and various committees for National Association of Investors Corporation (NAIC) Board of Directors and 15 years (some simultaneous) for the Southeast Florida Chapter of NAIC. Taught investment club accounting to chapters of the organization nationwide. Member of Friends of Crystal River NWR Board for five years. Also serve as volunteer on local social and charitable organizations and as a volunteer at the Homosassa Food Pantry.

Married to Ross Knudsen for 51 years. Have 2 children and 3 grandchildren. Interested in growing the Friends organization to be able to support projects of the Refuge to preserve our environment and wildlife for future generations.

Born and raised in Michigan. Received BA from University of Michigan and Masters from Wayne State Univ. Worked for 10 yrs. as a buyer for a dept. store chain until starting a family. Then started a rental management business which she is still involved in. Jo and her husband Bob lived in Germany for a few years before retiring to enjoy the Nature Coast.

John PeterlinDr. John Peterlin
Dr Peterlin graduated from Crystal River High School in 1985. He attended Auburn University on a four year NROTC scholarship and served as an officer in the US Navy until 1996. John returned to Auburn and was accepted to the Veterinary program in 1998. He received two noteworthy awards while in the veterinary medicine program. The Dr. E. A. Davis award for clinical proficiency in both large and small animal surgery and medicine and the Auburn University President’s Award given annually to the outstanding graduate of each college based on leadership, scholarship, patriotism, and integrity. John graduated with honors from the Auburn University College of Veterinary medicine in May of 2002 and joined the staff of Midway Animal Hospital in September of 2002.

His special interests include allergy and skin disease, small animal medicine and surgery, wildlife and exotic medicine. Dr. Peterlin’s hobbies include sailing, biking, wildlife photography, and singing in the church choir.
